Yes, you have to give them a thumbs up for their marketing departments and the way they roll out products. A++ for Apple!
My mom called me and ask if should could buy me one for my birthday. I had to say no for four main reasons.
1) I am still in contract with Verizon for another year.
2) I have a 30GB iPod (with 15GB occupied), so 8GB will not cut it, since I can't get rid of all of my classic music from the old days.
3) Poor application support, I know everyone keeps talking about these web apps but until they start to show up I can't see myself wanting to ditch my Palm with 30,000+ programs for download.
4) I just got a Nokia 770 Internet Tablet that works so good for viewing web-pages, I don't think I will ever want to view a page on a Pocket PC or Palm OS device.
All that being said, I must agree it looks really a cool device that every techie should have.

With all due respect Matthew I think you've missed the point. The iPhone is not for techies, it's for everyone else. It's truly designed for people who don't care about 3G or bluetooth modems or 30k apps. It's for people who want to open the box, plug it in and go. For people who want to check on movie times and google maps, read the news or view feeds. Sure, over time there will be more that it will do...but the elegance, the value is in the omission not the addition.
Jake, I'm guessing you may be waiting a long long time for that price...like any Apple product they tend to find a price point and stick to it, upgrading within those limits and not reducing the cost. So you'll see more/better/shinier before you see cheaper.
