Community Guy: Jobs Update - tons of new, tasty community positions open!

    I'm wondering how long the title "Online Community Manager" has been around? Several of these postings require 3 or more years experience in such a role.

    It's a good question. At this point, I think there are enough people in the biz that you could safely ask for that.

    That said, I don't think most companies are thinking about the realities of such a person - they're expensive and hard to find. One of the things I've always hated about job descriptions (for any position) is that they dial up the "hoped for" items and title them as "requirements". Blech.

    Good point. Building community ain't easy... I was shocked to see one of the listings local to me for a science museum was only paying $32-$35k for this role. I'm not convinced they understand the difference between community builder and website builder / script kiddie.

    ...or a community manager (low-level content moderator) vs. a community manager (mid-level or high-level business strategist).
