Community Guy: Another take on non-organic community

  • Miles Sims · 1 year ago
Interesting - I also wonder how relationships are developed in a sponsored community. Will people develop meaningful relationships as part of the structured community or does the structure prevent it?

I believe that some "organic" contributors could benefit from some "inorganic" methods. As the managing Editor of GOLO.com, I often encourage users who contribute here and there, to get more involved by complimenting them and even suggesting that they write more about their area of interest or by expressing gratitude for the time they spend in the community. With me, it really comes down to fostering a relationship with users. If a community is sponsored, that could be problematic, though I believe that with the right community leader, anything is possible.

I think the difference between organic and "created" communities might be much like the difference between the savannah and the zoo.

You might get a better chance to check out the giraffes in the Zoo, and closer and from more angles, but how much do you actually learn about their natural behavior? That would be my concern...
